In addition to making pretty things, I try to "work green" and to support both the community of artisans and specific charities. Here's how.
(1) The building in which all products are made is solar-powered.
(2) No harsh chemicals are used to clean the brass or silver: just good, old fashioned apple cider vinegar. What stains aren't removed generally mellow until they look rather nice.
(3) Most of my products are made of, or contain upcycled materials. Look for the "recycled" or "upcycled" tags to see which ones.
(4) I reuse packaging material. When this is not possible, I choose packaging that is either post-consumer or biodegradable.
(5) Every month, I will donate the money all customers pay for shipping to reforestation projects in Louisiana and Africa (see: www.carbonfund.org/site/pages/our_projects/category/Reforestation for more information.)
Reforestation is the only carbon offset scheme which actually *removes* carbon from the atmosphere. Reforestation also rebuilds habitats and provides local jobs.
(6) I buy most of my supplies from other Etsy sellers. Community is important! Buy handmade!
(7) Items in the "For the Cause" section include optional donations to the specific organizations listed in the item description. If you want the item, but don't want to support the cause, just let me know in your order.

ABOUT FARADAY BAGS
English chemist and philosopher Michael Faraday (1791-1867) made perhaps his greatest contributions in the areas of electromagnetism. His Faraday Cage is the basis of the data-shielding Faraday Bag, which uses his principles to shield the personal information contained in RFID chips in credit cards and passports from prying eyes.
In addition to data-shielding bags, I make totes and handbags without data-shielding capacity, so check item descriptions carefully to make sure you get the item you want.
Recently, I've started a line of jewelry inspired by the scientists and inventors of the steam age. From icon medallions to clockwork bracelets, earrings, and necklaces, my jewelry evokes the optimism and forward motion of the Age of Steam.
Much of my work comes from custom orders, and I'm very happy to consider requests.
I ship via USPS insured within the U.S., and First Class International to outside the United States.
All items are handmade in a smoke-free environment.
